Planning a floor with peeling paint or an old coating

Tell the installer about existing paint, sealer or epoxy before requesting a price. Removal and substrate assessment may change the project scope.

Photograph the whole floor and the problem areas

Take a wide view and closer views of peeling edges, worn vehicle paths, bubbles and previous patching. Describe when the problem appeared and what products were used, if known. Photographs support the conversation but cannot establish the cause of a failure.

Compare repair and replacement proposals

Ask what will be removed, what can remain, and how the remaining surface will be assessed. Avoid assuming that another topcoat will fix an adhesion problem underneath. Request a written explanation of the proposed work before selecting the new finish.

Ask what happens if more work is uncovered

Removal may expose conditions that were not visible at the initial conversation. Ask how findings will be documented, who approves any changed scope and whether the schedule must be reconsidered. Agree on that decision process before the work begins.
